Attention THS:  The inaugural season of the Purple Reign is wrapping up and with every ending, there is a new beginning.  With the first year in the books, we have learned a lot and have some changes in mind for next year that will improve and grow this great addition to our school.  One of those changes is concerning the Executive Board.  In order to have a much broader representation amongst all grades in the High School we are looking for nominations for the following positions:

1)     President
2)     Vice President
3)     Public Relations/Social Media
4)     Senior Representative
5)     Junior Representative
6)     Sophomore Representative
7)     Freshman Representative
8)     Master of Ceremonies

We will take nominations until March 6th and will vote on the positions during lunch the following week.  If you have any nominations and/or questions, please see Coach Mateer.

Spring Athletes
All spring sport athletes in Baseball, Softball and Track must be registered for their sport on the 8to18 website before practice begins next week.  Also, your physical must be valid for Monday March 2 in order for you to practice.  See Mr. Held if you have questions.

The Sadie Hawkins dance has been rescheduled to March 7, 2015, from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Please note the time change.  If the new date does not work for you, please see Mrs. Sorrill during advisory TODAY.  Tickets will be sold again next week if you would like to go and did not purchase tickets last week.

Counseling Center
Attention Students:  Sophomores with lockers on 3rd floor will need to take all books and materials with them after school on Monday, March 2 due to testing on March 3 & 4. 
You will not be able to access your lockers on the morning of testing days.  Please plan accordingly.

Attention Juniors:  You will be taking the ACT and WorkKeys standardized tests on March 3 & 4.  Testing room assignments are posted on 3rd floor, on the main lobby bulletin board and are available from your classroom teachers.  Please know your assignment in advance.  You will need to report to 3rd floor at 8:00 a.m. on both days.  Use the center staircase.  Please bring two #2 wood pencils, a calculator and a photo ID.  No cell phones or other materials are allowed.   After ACT testing on March 3 you will be dismissed for the remainder of the day.  On March 4 you will report to classes after WorkKeys testing is completed.

Congratulations to Audra Boehme for submitting the winning essay for the Christian County Christopher Columbus Essay Contest.

The Taylorville High School bowling had their yearend banquet and gave the following awards:  For the girls, awards were given out to Camila Tello for most improved bowler. Team captain was Rhea Whitlow, and the most valuable player for the 2014-2015 season was awarded to junior Brittany Alberts. On the boy’s side, Holden Nagle captured the most improved award. The team captain’s award went to the trio of seniors, Brent Frump, Tyler Roth and Lucas Nagle. Lucas Nagle was presented with the 2014-2015 most valuable player awards.  Sophomore bowler Connor Smegal was given the Team Spirit award.

Scholastic Bowl
Match is tonight at 5:00 in the science wing against Mt. Zion and Mattoon. Please be in the science wing by 4:30 to set up. Last match of the season! Wash and return shirts by Monday.

Congratulations to Keane Rogers on advancing to the state by beating Mahomet-Seymour’s Norton in the semifinal wrestle backs on Saturday at the Mattoon Sectional wrestling tournament.  The win qualified Rogers for the state tournament this weekend in Champaign at the State Farm Center.

Congratulations to the student council students who participated in the LEAD Conference academic challenge.  They competed against schools from across the US and at least one other country.  THS Student Council won the academic challenge competition! Good work Luke Sloan, Wil Seaton, Elysse Seaton, Brendan Held, Jade Bergschneider and Sara Karaianis!

Attention Seniors:  The Greater Taylorville Chamber of Commerce Scholarship application is now available in Student Services.  This scholarship awards tuition and fees for two semesters to Lincoln Land Community College and tuition for two semesters to Richland Community College.  Applications are due today, Friday, February 13.

All wrestlers can turn their equipment in to Coach Pullen Friday morning before school in the weight room.

Boys Track
There will be a meeting after school for all boys interested in track and not currently participating in a winter sport on Tuesday, February 17th in Room 143.  This is a mandatory meeting.  Official practice starts on Wednesday, February 18th.

THS Hall of Fame
The THS Sports Hall of Fame is accepting nominations at this time for the upcoming dinner/induction ceremony.
Nominations previously submitted are still active, but if you would like to nominate someone new, forms are available in both Student Services and the main office.   They are also available online at www.tcusd3.org  All nominations are due by February 21, 2015

Congratulations to the Lady Tornadoes Basketball Team for winning the Apollo Conference Championship by defeating Effingham last evening.  The final score was 55 to 40.  Go Tornadoes!

Congratulations to the following wrestlers who qualified for the individual Sectional on Friday and Saturday this week. David Cruikshank, Will Cruikshank, Heath Fleming, David Gideon, Preston Lindsey and Keane Rogers. Please excuse them at 12:45 pm on Friday for a 1:00 leave time to the Mattoon Individual Sectional.

STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council will be handing out evaluation sheets during lunch today.  Please complete and return. This will help better our school’s student council organization.

Guest Passes
Guest Passes for the Sadie Hawkins Dance are in the Main Office.  The dance is for Taylorville High School students and their guest.  If you are bringing a guest that is not a student of THS the following rules apply:
1.     Guest cannot be a student at any junior high school.
2.     THS student is responsible for securing a guest pass form and having their guest complete all the required information.
3.     THS student is required to have a guest pass form signed by Taylorville High School Administrator prior to the event and student must present form along with picture ID of guest to gain entrance to the dance.
