STUDENTS
Congratulations to the THS journalism staff on the results of the 2018 Southern Illinois
School Press Association yearbook and newspaper competition. The 2017 THS Drift
won the coveted Golden Dozen Award, and the Zephyr won the prestigious
Blue Banner Award. In the best newspaper story competition, senior Taylor Evanchak
won first place in editorial cartoon and in-depth news story, while sophomore
Abby Danielson placed first in sports writing, freshman Elyse Clayton placed second
for best interview story, senior Noah Nelson placed second in news writing and feature
writing, senior Jessica Parsons placed third for best interview story, sophomore
Tatianna Merker won third for best feature story, and sophomore Sydney Yonk placed
third for best photograph and caption. The THS Zephyr also placed second for best
front page layout and third for best overall layout.


Bus Riders
Starting today (Wed., Feb. 28) - T-8 (Light Green) bus will be riding T-6 (yellow) until
further notice.

Prom
There will be a prom committee meeting on Thursday @ 3:00 and Friday @ 7:45 in
Mrs. tanner’s room. Please come and attend one of the meetings.


Student Athletes
All student/athletes for all spring sports must be registered on 8to18 in order to
practice with their teams.  There are no exceptions to this requirement.

The Taylorville Park District has job opportunities in various areas of its operations for the
Summer 2018 season.  The following types of employment are available: Lifeguards (we will
train), pool and Don Bragg Sports Complex concessionaires, pool maintenance, pool cashiers,
day camp directors and day camp assistants.  Interested candidates must have reached the age of 16 and reside within the Taylorville Park District to be considered for employment.  Applications are available at the park office, Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-12 p.m. & 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. as well as www.taylorvilleparkdistrict.com
Applications must be turned into the Manners Park Office no later than 4 p.m. Friday,

SAT prep begins this Saturday at 10 am in the cafeteria with a session on evidence-based
reading. Juniors, we will begin right at 10 am so come on time to register for door prizes and
gift card giveaways. You will also need a pen or pencil. See you this Saturday at 10 am.

“Show some Love” to the Animal Protective League (APL) by donating wish list items
(cat food, dog food, cleaning supplies, and gently used towels or blankets), or cash for hearts.  
Hearts will be on sale before and after school each Friday during the month of February in the
main foyer.  The class with the most donations will get ice cream sandwiches provided by
Key Club @ lunch on March 9.  All proceeds benefit APL.
