Congratulations to the THS journalism staff on their performance at the 2017 Southern Illinois School Press Association's winter conference, held Wednesday, Feb. 22, at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. The 2016 Drift won the prestigious Golden Dozen Award, while also receiving first-place awards for end sheets, copy writing and theme development, second place for both photography and layout, and third place for dividers and overall coverage. The THS Zephyr won the coveted Blue Banner Award, with senior editor-in-chief Luke Sloan winning first place for front page design and second place for humorous column. Junior Jessica Parsons placed first in editorial column writing, and senior Dakota Hudson placed first in editorial cartooning. In SISPA's on-site competition, Luke Sloan took first place in editorial writing, freshman Sydney Yonk placed first in yearbook feature writing, and senior Thorin Roberts took third place in ad design. Journalism instructor Stephen Steele also received the 2017 W. Manion Rice Newspaper Adviser of the Year Award.
The Apollo Conference Art Show is this Friday in the East Gym! Everyone is welcome to come. It starts at 5 and finishes at 7 pm. Please come and support THS Friday night!
Employment Opportunities
The Taylorville Park District is taking applications for the Summer 2017 season. The following types of employment are available: Lifeguards (we will train), pool concessionaires and pool maintenance. Interested candidates must have reached the age of 16 and reside within the Taylorville Park District to be considered for employment. Applications are available at the park office, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. and1 p.m. - 4 p.m. as well Applications are also available in the Main Office at THS.

Applications must be turned into the Manners Park Office no later than 4 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2017.
